Štěpán je absolventem Ateliéru produktového designu brněnské FaVU VUT, ale kromě designu se dlouhodobě věnuje fotografii. V jeho tvorbě se objevují především fotografie z cest a poutí, dokument, ale hlavně díla hluboce spjatá s rodným krajem Vysočinou. Jeho fotografie jsou protkány tématy jako je reflexe vlastní identity a návraty do známých míst, ale i zrcadlením emocí v analogových fotografiích spjatých s krajinou.
Na výběru melancholických výjevů z cyklu Mimo sezónu, který vznikl v autorově rodném kraji v roce 2013, je zachycena prázdnota posezónních rekreačních středisek. Z mlhy a zapomenutých artefaktů vystupuje přechodný stav opuštění, který vytváří realitu novou a odlišnou od toho, jak tato místa běžně vnímáme a jaký význam pro nás mají. Střetáváme se na nich s pomyslnými „prázdnými místy“, která ale zároveň, pro Štěpána typicky, divákovi otevírají prostor k vlastnímu dovyprávění příběhu a doplnění osobními vzpomínkami.
Štěpán Jílek is a graduate of the Product Design Studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno, but except design, he has been working with photography for a long time. His work includes photographs from travels and pilgrimages, documentaries, but mainly his work is deeply connected with his homeland Vysočina. In these photographs you can find topics such as reflection on one’s own identity and returning to familiar places, but also with the reflection of emotions in analog photographs connected with the landscape.
In the selection of melancholic scenes from the Out of Season cycle, which were taken in Vysočina region in 2013, is captured emptiness of post-season recreation centers. From the fog and forgotten artifacts thus emerges a transient state of abandonment, which creates a new and different reality from how we commonly perceive these places and what they mean to us. We encounter imaginary “empty spaces” in them, which at the same time, for Štěpán typically, open up space for the viewer to finish the story and complement it with personal memories.
