Bildende Künstlerinnen. Arbeiten als Künstlerinnen-Duo zusammen, seit sie sich 2014 auf der gemeinsamen Ausstellung Netlač řeku, teče sama [Schiebe den Fluss nicht an, er fließt von selbst] in der Prager Galerie Berlínskej model kennenlernten. Die Künstlerinnen sind Absolventinnen des Ateliers für Fotografie an der Akademie für Kunst, Architektur und Design / Vysoká škola uměleckoprůmyslová (UMPRUM), beide haben interdisziplinäre Praktika absolviert – Fastrová im Atelier für Skulptur und Pošová im Atelier für Animationsfilm. Beide Künstlerinnen kombinieren Themen, die das Verhältnis von Natur und Kultur und die Auswirkung der menschlichen Existenz auf die Tiere und die Umwelt betreffen, das Schlangensymbol fasziniert sie. Häufig bauen ihre Projekte auf den Prinzipien von Recycling und Nachhaltigkeit auf, suchen also einen bewussten Zugang zur Wahl der Materialien und ihrer anschließenden Verarbeitung.
Als zentrales Motiv für das Projekt haben die Künstlerinnen den Satz Life finds a way gewählt. Es ist ein Zitat aus dem Hollywood-Kultfilm Jurassic Park (1993, Regie Steven Spielberg), das die Künstlerinnen seit Beginn ihrer Zusammenarbeit als eine Art Motto verwenden. Es lässt sich gewissermaßen als Symbol für den Lebensweg verstehen, oder auch für die Hoffnung, dass die Natur und die Lebewesen immer, auch unter schwierigsten Bedingungen, einen Weg finden zu überleben. In ihrem Werk verwenden die Künstlerinnen das Motto als Objekt an sich bzw. als Nachricht, die sie verewigen wollen, indem sie sie in Ton brennen. So erhält sie größeres Gewicht, als wenn man sie etwa auf Papier – ein viel vergänglicheres Material – drucken würde. Das Objekt kann dann als Talisman dauerhaft im Leben der Besitzer präsent bleiben und daran erinnern, dass „das Leben immer einen Weg findet“.
Visual artists. They have worked as a creative duo since 2014, when they met at the joint exhibition Netlač řeku, teče sama (Don’t force the river, it flows itself) at the gallery Berlínskej Model. The artists are graduates from the Department of Photography at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, while also undertaking interdisciplinary internships – Fastrová in a sculpture studio and Pošová in an animation one. Both artists combine themes focusing on the relationship between nature and culture, the impact of humanity on animals and nature, and they are fascinated by the symbol of the snake. They often build their projects on the principles of recycling and sustainability, which means on a conscious approach to the selection of materials and their subsequent treatment. Often it involves found materials and paper or second-‑hand textiles, for example, which they incorporate into their further work without the use of electricity. What is highly important for the artistic duo is the emphasis on the creative process and its essential interconnection with the work and the examination as a process influencing the final work. They select with regard to form the most suitable medium for each piece.
The artists have selected the statement “Life finds a way” as the central motif for the project. The line is from the cult Hollywood film Jurassic Park (1993, dir. Stephen Spielberg), and they have adopted it as something of a motto since the start of their collaboration. It can be seen as a symbol of life’s journey or the hope that nature and living beings will always find a way to survive, even in the most challenging conditions. The artists use the motto as an object or message itself in the work and decided to immortalise and fire it into ceramic clay. Thus, it gained greater weight than “only” being, for example, printed on paper – i.e. on more ephemeral material. Thus, this object can remain from now on in the life of the owner like a talisman and remind them that “life always finds a way”.
